Austin is the state capital of Texas, an inland city bordering the Hill Country region. Home to the University of Texas flagship campus, Austin is known for its eclectic live-music scene centered around country, blues and rock. Its many parks and lakes are popular for hiking, biking, swimming and boating. South of the city, Formula One's Circuit of the Americas raceway has hosted the United States Grand Prix.
Residents of Austin are known as&nbsp;Austinites.&nbsp;They include a diverse mix of government employees, college students, musicians, high-tech workers, digital marketers, and&nbsp;blue-collar workers. The city's official slogan promotes Austin as "The Live Music Capital of the World", a reference to the city's many musicians and live music venues, as well as the long-running&nbsp;PBS&nbsp;TV concert series&nbsp;Austin City Limits.&nbsp;The city also adopted "Silicon Hills" as a nickname in the 1990s due to a rapid influx of technology and development companies. In recent years, some Austinites have adopted the unofficial slogan "Keep Austin Weird",&nbsp;which refers to the desire to protect small, unique, and local businesses from being overrun by large corporations.&nbsp;Since the late 19th century, Austin has also been known as the "City of the Violet Crown", because of the colorful glow of light across the hills just after sunset.
In 1987, Austin originated and remains the site for&nbsp;South by Southwest&nbsp;(stylized as SXSW and colloquially referred to as&nbsp;South By), an annual conglomeration of parallel&nbsp;film,&nbsp;interactive media, and&nbsp;music festivals&nbsp;and&nbsp;conferences that take place in mid-March. Emerging from a strong economic focus on government and education, since the 1990s, Austin has become a center for technology and business. A number of&nbsp;Fortune 500&nbsp;companies have headquarters or regional offices in Austin, including&nbsp;3M,&nbsp;Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

With a rich sense of history and a thriving entertainment scene, Downtown is Austin’s beating heart. Late-19th-century architectural landmarks, including the iconic Texas State Capitol (1888) and the Driskill Hotel (1886), mix with modern museums. Music lovers flock to celebrated venues like Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater and Stubbs BBQ, while revelers hit the high-energy bars along East 6th Street.

Downtown Austin

North Austin is an expansive area of oak-shaded residential neighborhoods, with a hopping zone of dining and nightlife. Along Burnet Road, modern eateries serve Asian-fusion to tacos, some in funky, retrofitted spaces, while Rock Rose Avenue thrums with bars and live music, and brewpubs dot the area. Shoppers hit the Domain and Arboretum malls, and hikers explore 15 miles of trails at rugged Walnut Creek Park

North Austin

South Austin is an expansive district of leafy residential suburbs and green spaces like the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, a botanic garden showcasing native Texas plants. Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park has hiking trails and a disc golf course. Among the area&rsquo;s several malls is Southpark Meadows, with big-box stores and a cinema, while clusters of eateries include taquerias, BBQ joints, and sushi spots.

South Austin

Hutto&nbsp;is a city in&nbsp;Williamson County, Texas, United States. It is part of the&nbsp;Austin&ndash;Round Rock&nbsp;metropolitan area. The population was 14,698 at the 2010 census.
Hutto is located at 30&deg;32&prime;40&Prime;N 97&deg;32&prime;43&Prime;W (30.544517, &minus;97.545198), about seven miles (11 km) east of Round Rock and 22 miles (35 km) northeast of Austin.
According to the&nbsp;United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.75&nbsp;square miles (20.1&nbsp;km2), all of it land.

Historically, Hutto was established in 1876 when the&nbsp;International-Great Northern Railroad&nbsp;passed through land owned by James Emory Hutto (1824-1914), for whom the community is named. Railroad officials designated the stop Hutto Station. James Hutto was born in Alabama on June 8, 1824; he came to Texas in 1847 and moved his family to Williamson County in 1855. A slave, Adam Orgain, was actually the first person to live in the immediate Hutto vicinity, having been placed out on the blackland prairie by his owner to watch after the cattle and livestock holdings. In 1876, James Hutto sold 50 acres (200,000&nbsp;m2) to the Texas Land Company of New York for a town site and railroad right of way. Hutto had become a wealthy cattleman in Williamson County, but in 1885, he left Hutto and moved to Waco and entered the hardware business. Other early settlers in the area were the Carpenter, Davis, Evans, Farley, Goodwin, Highsmith, Johnson, Magle, Payne, Saul, Weight, Womack, and Wright families. Other people living in Hutto during the 1890s included the Armstrongs, the Ahlbergs, M.B. Kennedy, the Hugh Kimbro family, William McCutcheon, Green Randolph, J.B. Ross and the Tisdales. Soon, a great many more people, primarily Swedish and German immigrants, came to this area to farm and ranch and begin their new lives in America.

Hutto

Georgetown is a city in central Texas. Buildings in its Downtown Historic District include the Victorian-era Old Williamson County Jail and the 1911 Courthouse. The Williamson Museum explores local history. East, Southwestern University is known for its Fountainwood Observatory. Blue Hole Park features a lagoon along the San Gabriel River. To the south, Inner Space Cavern is a vast cave with hundreds of stalactites.

Georgetown

Round Rock is a city near Austin, Texas. It's known for its outdoor activities and historic sites. The Round Rock, a large stone in Brushy Creek, marks the site where wagons made low-water crossings in the 19th century. Nearby, Chisholm Trail Crossing Park has plaques detailing the city’s cattle-driving history. Old Settlers Park includes baseball fields, playgrounds, a disc golf course, and a fish-stocked lake. The city straddles the&nbsp;Balcones Escarpment,&nbsp;a fault line in which the areas roughly east of&nbsp;Interstate 35&nbsp;are flat and characterized by having black, fertile soils of the&nbsp;Blackland Prairie, and the west side of the Escarpment, which consists mostly of hilly,&nbsp;karst-like&nbsp;terrain with little topsoil and higher elevations and which is part of the&nbsp;Texas Hill Country. Located about 20 miles (32&nbsp;km) north of downtown Austin, Round Rock shares a common border with&nbsp;Austin&nbsp;at&nbsp;Texas State Highway 45. In August 2008,&nbsp;Money&nbsp;named Round Rock as the seventh-best American small city in which to live.&nbsp;Round Rock was the only Texas city to make the Top 10. In a CNN article dated July 1, 2009, Round Rock was listed as the second-fastest-growing city in the country, with a population growth of 8.2% in the preceding year. According to the 2008 ratings from the Texas Education Agency, the&nbsp;Round Rock Independent School District&nbsp;ranks among the best in the state. Of 42 schools within it, 12 were rated exemplary and 11 were recognized. Round Rock is perhaps best known as the international headquarters of&nbsp;Dell Technologies, which employs about 16,000 people at its Round Rock facilities.&nbsp;The presence of Dell along with other major employers,&nbsp;an economic development program, major retailers such as&nbsp;IKEA, a&nbsp;Premium Outlet Mall, and the mixed-use&nbsp;La Frontera&nbsp;center, have changed Round Rock from a sleepy&nbsp;bedroom community&nbsp;into its own self-contained "super suburb".

Round Rock

Lake Travis is a reservoir on the Colorado River in central Texas in the United States. Serving principally as a flood-control reservoir, Lake Travis' historical minimum to maximum water height change is nearly 100 feet. In 2018 alone, it saw a 20-foot depth increase within a single 24-hour period of time. Lake Travis is well known for its outdoor recreation opportunities, including fishing, boating, swimming, scuba diving, picnicking, camping, and zip lining. Another recreational use, nude sunbathing and swimming, is permitted in&nbsp;Hippie Hollow Park. This picturesque park is located near the eastern end of Lake Travis and is the only legal clothing optional park in Texas. Lake Travis is generally considered one of the clearest lakes in Texas. It is a vital water supply for the nearby city of Austin, Texas and the surrounding metropolitan area.
